Eliana means “Please, My God” (as in a prayer) or “My God has answered” (we actually spell it the second way).

Note for the Hebrew-challenged: The Hebrew words אנא (please) and ענה (he answered) are completely unrelated, are spelled completely differently, and in Hebrew As She Is Properly Pronounced they aren't quite homonyms, though they're pretty close. If someone like Rabbi Amnon Yitzchak, with his perfect diction,* pronounced them, you could hear the difference. But in Hebrew As She Is Usually Pronounced, the difference in pronunciation between the two words is dropped, and they sound exactly the same.

* I am not generally a fan of Rabbi Yitzchak's preaching style, but I love listening to him speak.

I remember you pointing out the same back when we first named Eliana. All I knew back then was that the book I read the name in told me that depending on how you spelled the name, it had those two meanings. :) I love that you've given me more information. When Ellie gets to be old enough to understand what I'm talking about, I'll be sure to explain this to her.
