I'd like to tell you about the triplets' first birthday, but I've been so busy this week.  I'd like to tell you how cute they were when they dove into their birthday cupcakes Friday after dinner, each with their own unique personalities, but I've been too tired at the end of each day to compose a post.   I'd like to write an eloquent post about the triplets first birthday party on Sunday, but the babies have been sick all week, which has been keeping me busy.  I'd like to tell you about their 12 month appointment with the doctor, but now I'm sick.

So, in the absence of eloquence, I'll leave you with a few stats and a couple quick pictures, and then... I'm off to bed:

Sam: 21 lbs, 4oz (23rd percentile), 29 inches long (19th percentile)
Ellie: 20 lbs, 2 oz (30th percentile), 28 inches long (13th percentile)
Abby: 19 lbs (14th percentile), 28 1/2 inches long (24th percentile)

I've had people tell me that my babies are really fat; that I'm feeding them too much... but I think it's clear that they are not.  Even Ellie, my chunkiest, beautiful girl is only in the 30th percentile.  My babies are perfect.  I'll tell you more about their visit to the doctor when I'm feeling better.

Now for a couple pictures before bed:

Ellie loved her cake!

Abby was snarly and threw her cake around, but she loved it!

Just remember: they get chunky... then they grow... then they get chunky... then they grow...

In other news, I must be getting ready for a growth spurt :-)

Your babies are not fat, they are juicy and delicious! Nom nom nom!

Rivka has the exact same waist size at 5 years old as she had when she was two. As cahwyguy says, they get chunky, they grow.

the thing is, except for Ellie's delicious thighs... they're not even all that chunky!

::squeals with incoherent glee over the adorableness::

Also, for the record, people who tell women that they're feeding their babies too much and they're fat should generally be flogged. People who tell mothers of *preemies* that they're feeding their babies too much and they're fat should be *killed*. ::coughs::

It's possible I'm a tad sensitive on this subject ;) And your babies are wonderful and perfect.

I know! Seriously! What is the DEAL? Ellie was Failure to Thrive for crying out loud. I'm not sorry that she's got big, chubby, thriving thighs now. I worked hard for those!
marag From: marag Date: September 26th, 2008 01:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
There are few sights more beautiful than those chubby thighs on a preemie. I still remember the day I looked at Yael and suddenly said, "OMG, that's what baby thighs are supposed to look like! We did it!"

I didn't work nearly as hard as you did, but...yeah. ::finds those people and kills them for you, since you're too busy::

wait, ellie is the chunkiest?? lol FTT what?
in other news, do you read parenting101 at all? people like to snark about baby products for lazy parents and bottle proppers come up a lot. the rebuttal is always, well what if you have triplets? lol I couldnt help it this time i was like WELL I know this woman... 91 gallons!! no bottle proppers!! lol they were impressed ;-)
have a good shabbos, a shana tovah, and all that good stuff
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: September 26th, 2008 01:42 pm (UTC) (Link)
a lot of triplet mother prop bottles. I personally do not believe in bottle propping. Next time you see a post about bottle propping, please point me in that direction, because I feel very strongly about it. My babies never had a propped bottle, I never used podee bottles. My babies, even when they had bottles instead of breastfeeding, were held by a person for every feeding. A nurse in my pediatrician's office once propped a bottle for one of my babies and I went ballistic. It is absolutely not necessary and anyone who says it is is full of it. I breastfed two babies and bottlefed the third baby who couldn't breastfeed and managed just fine without ever propping a bottle. SO THERE.

And yes, how ironic is it that Ellie's the chunkiest? (And still only in the 30th percentile... but still, definitely my chunkiest, though not my heaviest).

lol 99% of the commenters to the post agree with you. if you're that lazy, dont have kids lol. theres always the speculation of why these things were created though. but I will definitely link you the next time it comes up.

cake outside? brilliant move!

and the cakes in the shape of a block? just awesome!!!! did you make them?

also, i seem to recall that 20 lbs at 1 year was normal? like the average? it's impressive that they've caught up so quickly! you must be making gravy instead of milk ;)
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: September 26th, 2008 05:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, 20 pounds is below average... you see that Ellie at 20 pounds is only in the 30th percentile. But they're doing GREAT!

Yes, I made the cakes, and the party was in a park, by design!
journeytoernie From: journeytoernie Date: September 26th, 2008 09:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
that's funny. i seriously recall that 20 lbs was normal. so what is average for a one year old?

you made the cakes! wow karen! you deserve a medal!

Great weights! They look perfect B"H.
Boy did they attack those cupcakes.
They don't even look like cupcakes, they look like creations! Stunning!
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: September 26th, 2008 05:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
They weren't cupcakes, they were small cakes that I made in the shape of building blocks. They did a great job attacking them! :)
