Happy? - Karen's Musings
Random Rambling
You know, I'm stressed out about a fair number of things ranging from various doctors appointments, to work, to money, to not enough hours in the day, to carpool, to banquet stuff, to not-a-clean-enough-house. So yeah. Stressed? Sure.

But I need to take this opportunity to note that despite all of those things, I'm generally a happy person. I'm not sure I ever thought I'd be really *happy*, but I am and have been for some time. When I was in Florida, both May (our friend from Scotland) and my grandmother remarked that they'd never seen me happier. I didn't think I was particularly happy that day, as I was really, really tired, but you know, maybe they just hadn't noticed before (well, May doesn't see me much and actually, neither does my grandmother).

And you know, it wasn't just that visit. I am happy. Really happy. I have a wondermous husband who takes care of me when I need to be taken care of and lets me be when I need to be let alone. I have a terrific two year old. I work with terrific people. And I have wonderful friends.

Aside from being debt-free, what more can a girl ask for? What's that you say? A DVD Player in the kitchen?1 Hah! My sweetie got me one!

1I am absolutely positive that have_inner_lady is cringing at the idea of a DVD player in the kitchen.  And I'm okay with that.  I cringe at the idea of slamming broom heads into chunks of ice, but that doesn't stop her!  :)

Current Mood: dorky

Is it a portable stand-alone DVD player? Those are great. Ours is currently near (but out of reach of) Richard's crib, but also moves into other rooms, and the car, from time to time.

no, it's an under-the-cabinet one, which I like better. The screen swivels. :)

It's similar to, but not exactly the same, as this one: http://tinyurl.com/n653f

My screen doesn't swivel, but the whole thing is so small (it's a 7" screen, and the base is the same width as the screen) that I can just turn the whole thing... ;)

It has to be put onto a flat surface, though; I'd need duct tape to mount it under a cabinet (and then the picture would be upside-down).

It has audio/video imputs, though, so it can also be used to play video games in the car on long trips (which is why Q needed dramamine on the drive to Florida.)

I'm all for the portable ones in general. I just didn't want it in the kitchen. We've got this mounted under a shelf on the wall, so it's not in my way and not in danger of getting spilled on. I spend so much time in the kitchen that I just want a little company sometimes. And since a good deal of my kitchen time is late at night when Seth and Julian are both snoozing... this is my compromise.

And I LURVE it!

[cracking up re: DVD/broom comment] :-)

What a wonderful revelation. You've brought me some joy in sharing it -- thank you.

so was I right? Did it make you cringe? :)

A little. I think the effect would have been greater if I hadn't just spent four days completely submerged in a life I would not choose for myself.

Heh. Well, if it helps, all I've used the thing for so far is to play a CD in there. But really I wanted it for my late-late-late Thursday night cooking-fests. That probably doesn't help you stop cringing, but hey... we all have our guilty pleasures I suppose.

I've certainly had unhappy periods of my life, but I don't think I've ever truly considered myself an unhappy person, though I know others have thought that of me. I guess I just never considered that I would say I'm happy either. I spent a long time being indifferent.

I'm just not sure when the transition happened.

I'm not sure I could pinpoint a date/time the transition happened, but I believe it had something to do with Seth. That's when I feel like you became actively happy.

Shall I say, "I told you so" now, as I remind you of how you tried to discourage me from getting back together with him?

It's so nice to realize the good in life. Your post just sounds so familiar. It's not like I was wasn't happy before I became frum and married but I wasn't the same person as I am now. IY"H you should continue to be happy!
