shabbos menus
I still haven't posted the menu from last shabbos and I'm not sure I can remember all of it, but I wanted to capture it here just in case. I still don't know what I'm cooking for tomorrow.

Last Friday evening we had the Friedmans (with Adir), the Soboroff/Friedrichs (with Avi), and the Abensons (with Nathan!), plus us, of course. I served:
Gefilte Fish baked in Tomato Sauce
Garlic Tofu Dip
Meatballs & Sauce
Mandarin Orange Salad
Marinated Tomato Salad
Roasted Cauliflower (I changed the spices this time)
Broccoli Kugel (I so love broccoli kugel, and it's SO easy!)
Roasted Beets
Roasted Grape Tomatoes
Fruit Salad and Babka for dessert

All in all, it was a lovely meal and we had two nice wines. I was happy to have the Soboroff/Friedrichs for dinner, as we haven't been able to do that for a long time (Avi's bedtime makes it harder). The company was wonderful, the food was good (I actually ate some that night!), and I got to bed by midnight, so all was well.

This week, I'm less sure of what to do. We're having the Felds and Becky's mom. I'm not sure yet if we're also having the Abensons. I think I will do soup instead of fish, but that depends on how much time I have (soup is more labor intensive). I don't want to do both because I'm just too tired right now. And I think I'll do that honey chicken that bluejeanjexy taught me how to make. Obviously green salad. And I haven't done potato kugel in a while, so I may do that. I'll do some green beans with caramelized onions because that's one way that Aaron will eat green beans. And I would really like to have at least one new recipe... I'm getting bored with my standard repertoire. It's not very exciting color-wise. Oh! I do have a spaghetti squash in my fridge. If it's still good, I can cook that with some seasoned tomato sauce and that will give me a nice deep orangey color on the plate. Sigh. We'll see. I'm feeling somewhat uninspired, as usual.

Current Mood: cheerful cheerful

i have a good recipe for you. boil beets. peel skin off under cold water. slice. chop up a few cloves of garlic. put in with beets. add 2-3 tbl red wine vinegar, pinch of salt, 2 tbl nice olive oil. mix together.

YUMMMY. very garlicky. intensifies over time. i like to mix it with other salads that have no taste/dressing.

OMG I THOUGHT OF YOU because it was so pretty. and your hands become this beautiful purple-red from peeling the beets. and if you're really lucky you get purple pee!

oh, i also chopped up the stems/greens from teh beets and steamed them and squeezed lemon juice and olive oil on them. yum. healthy. happy.
