NO MORE CLUTTER - Karen's Musings
Random Rambling
Seth and I are going to be getting a storage unit. We'd really already needed one before the wedding, but since we've got really generous friends, we've got things distributed among our friends in various places. But that time is coming to an end.

Another result of having generous friends is that we got a lot of wedding presents. [1] My father's wedding present to us was to complete (mostly) our china pattern. (I'm still missing some serving pieces, but we've got a full set of mostly everything) This is all fine and lovely and believe me, I'm thrilled to have my china. I love it. However, I refuse to use it until we've got a proper place to store it safely (e.g. a china cabinet). So basically, it will have to wait until we have a bigger house. That's fine with me because we have the rest of our lives to use it. After all, we plan to be married for a long time.

This means, however, that we have a lot of boxes of china (not to mention our dairy every-day dishes that we registered for and haven't used yet).[2] And we've always had boxes and boxes of books that never got unpacked when I moved in. With Passover right around the corner, we're going to need to do some Spring cleaning and we're going to need some extra space, so we've decided to take the plunge and get a storage unit. Makes sense, no?

But while we're getting the storage unit anyway, I'm determined to ELIMINATE CLUTTER FROM MY LIFE. I hate clutter. My biggest problem is that I'm a neat freak hidden inside a slob's body. And while I have no illusions that I'm ever going to be clutter-free, MUCH of our clutter stems from the fact that we simply don't have space for things. (Much of the rest of it stems from the fact that I don't have a desk, but we think we've found a place we can put a desk in this house, once some other things are stored) So I'm going to pack up a lot of my books (I will never get rid of them, this is a temporary fix, and don't you forget it!!), Seth's going to store some of his comic books (don't worry, we'll get a temperature and humidity controlled place), most of the videos (not DVD's) are being packed up, and it's ALL GOING TO STORAGE along with a couple of small pieces of furniture. I really hope this helps matters. Knick knacks are going too, darnit.

I'm also looking forward to buying a cabinet that can act as a pantry so that we can clear up some space in the kitchen. The kitchen drives me batty because we just don't have enough space for our things. I do a lot of cooking, and consequently I have a lot of kitchen stuff. And I'd get rid of some of it or store some of it, but the truth is, I actually use all of it. I can't think of a single kitchen implement that we have that I've not used within the past couple of months...oh, except for two silver serving trays and a silver gravy boat. They can go into storage. But that won't free up much space.

[1]And speaking of wedding presents, if you never received a thank you note from us, it's because I suck. I wrote a whole lot of them the week after the wedding. And I wrote several more in the next couple of weeks. And then I got sick. And I've been sick ever since. This is absolutely NO EXCUSE for not writing them. And I truly, deeply apologize for not being better about it. I will finish writing them soon.

[2] We're saving the dairy dishes for use at Passover. Normally, I'd use the china for a Passover Seder and store it afterward, since it's never been used before. But we decided that it would be better for me not to have the physical stress of making a seder this year, so we've bailed on the whole idea and won't be needing china.

It's good that you posted about this

I probably wouldn't have posted until you saw a post like this:

Mood: tired

Grunt. Urgh. *collapse* :)

It's all good, sweetie. It will be done.

Re: re: thank you notes

Sigh. I just feel sucky about it because MOST of the people that I haven't sent them to don't KNOW that I've been sick. And I don't feel like I can write "So sorry I'm such a schlump about writing these, honest, I had a good reason"

I'm writing all of them. If Seth wrote any of them, the poor people wouldn't be able to read them.

I would have thought that a pharmacist would be more sensitized to that sort of thing. "Um, does this scrawl from your doctor say 'codeine 2x/day' or 'morphine 2x/hour'?"
