ohmigosh!
I completely forgot to make note of a very huge milestone that Julian had.

...

Julian went poopy in the potty on Tuesday! WHOO HOO! I'll note again that we are decidedly not potty training. He only uses the potty when he asks for it and thus far he's only peed in the potty, which was fine with me. The kid is only 2, a boy, and an only child... normally these things would indicate that he's not ready to potty train. But...well, he wants it!

So... YAY.

I know what you mean. You almost want to have it bronzed, you know?

Just you wait, mister. When you have little critters running around, you'll think the same thing. Then you'll stop and think, "Did I really just think that? Eeeeeeeeewwwwww!"

I gotta kinda agree with Steve here and say that even though I know what you're talking about... EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW

Oh, wow, that's so great!

I'm very happy for you that he's starting so early and so independently! He's always showing how great a kid he is. Time for a poop party!

p.s. From here I wonder how hard it would be to encourage him to vomit in the big toilet...? Rafael understood that quickly, but he went through this at a much older age.

Problem is I think the vomitting (common as it is) catches him completely by surprise.

Congrats to him! That is a really big step.

yeah, it's nifty. I don't have any remote belief that he'll consistently use the potty for a long time. But it's still nifty.

Woo-hoo! Hooray for Julian!

That *is* exciting. It means the end of the diaper trail is in sight.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: December 8th, 2005 03:48 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'm pretty sure the end of the diapers is far in the future. But that's okay. I really don't mind diapers. Honest.

Whoo hoo.

Also a heads up. It is a not uncommon pattern for children to show an initial interest in the potty, be very excited about using it, etc., then lose interest and need to be encouraged the traditional way (stars, charts, duct tape, etc.)
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: December 8th, 2005 03:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
Oh, I know. He's had a pretty consistent interest in it for several months, but it's on and off and I don't push it. I'm not particularly interested in it. This is just all about his slef-directed interest. But it's still pretty cool that he did have a poopy in the potty. :)

duct tape?
do I even want to know?
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: December 13th, 2005 05:37 pm (UTC) (Link)
My husband (sethcohen) and osewalrus agree on parenting techniques:
  1. Merciless Discipline; and
  2. Duct Tape solves most problems.

My mother says that when I "figured out" the whole potty thing, I was so proud that I came to find her and led her to the bathroom to show her.

Mothers. We do not honor them NEARLY enough.

Congrats to the kid! Tell him from me that he's a big boy now.

YAY POOP!!!

Give him a big sticker from me. :-D

estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: December 13th, 2005 05:37 pm (UTC) (Link)
He got a special treat. I didn't think of stickers until an hour later, when it was really too late.

Huzzah! As soon as I read your cut-tag, I thought "Ah-ha, Julian and the potty!" and I was right. :)
mysticchyna From: mysticchyna Date: December 12th, 2005 06:36 am (UTC) (Link)
I think that's really quite an accoplishment. He is triving in your home. Learning proper potty they say is an indicatin of if a child is happy or not, don't know how true that is...meh...
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: December 13th, 2005 05:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
He's been using the potty (on and off) since he turned two (he's 27 months now). He was asking for it before that, but I just didn't have the energy to deal with potty training. I still don't, so it's all Julian-led. He asks for the potty and he gets it. If he doesn't ask for it, he doesn't get it. I'm fine with diapers for another year. He's really young (for a boy) to be using the potty, so I'm not pushing it.

He's really an amazing little man. Seriously.
