A good day.
I thought today was going to be a bad day. I was convinced of it, actually. And if I'd written this post (as I'd intended) at lunchtime, I would have been sure it WAS a rotten day, but the time just slips away, so my rotten day wasn't to be recorded for all time. Instead, you get end of the day reflections on what turned out to be a pretty excellent day.

Today felt like enough activity and excitement for an entire week. Whew.

My day started out with the discovery that Julian had gotten to the top of our TALL dresser where I now stash my glasses for the night (having learned my lesson about putting them on the nightstand at Julian-height) and broken my glasses. Again. It's times like these that I realize that even the trying times with Julian are worth it. He's still cute and still loving. And he wasn't being vindictive, just curious and excitable. I am choosing to view his mischief in a positive light (for now) and believe that it is his way of expressing his curiosity and exploring the limits of the giant world around him. And I do mean the limits. :) Fortunately, I can still perch the glasses, however precariously, on my face since he managed (again) to "just" break off one earpiece. We sat and talked (calmly, if you can believe it) about how what he did was, perhaps, not the best use of his skills as a future rock climber, and he smiled and giggled so much through what was supposed to be a stern lecture, until I couldn't do anything but hug him and tell him I love him.

So off to work I went, frustrated, but productive. I called Lens Crafters and asked them to make up an identical pair in an identical frame so that I wouldn't have to come in to have them do all the measuring and such. I left work late-ish and headed straight to White Flint Mall to pick up the glasses only to discover that the mall had been evacuated due to a gas leak. No new glasses for Eewee. Either I'll be able to pick them up tomorrow or I'll get them on Sunday. Either way, it's not the end of the world, just a little more inconvenient than I'd been planning.

I came home and was greeted by Seth and Julian who were playing in the yard. "Eewee! Eewee!" he called, running toward me and scrambling down the steps. "Eewee eewee eeeeeeweeeeeeeee!" nearly knocking me over with a big hug and a kiss. How a 30 pound monster can knock over his jumbo-sized Eema is beyond me, but he manages sometimes. Mwah, mwah, mwah! More kisses for Eewee!

And then he threw a stick at me, earning himself a time out in his room. Sigh. These are the times when we focus on the good things as much as possible, right?

He came bounding out of his room, hardly affected by his penalty, dried tears streaking his face. I felt like the meanest Eewee ever. But more hugs and kisses for me, all is forgiven. He gobbled down his dinner, grapes, grapes, grapes and grapes. More cheese, please. And some grapes on the side with a couple of veggie "chicken" nuggets. "Mmmmm Mmmmmm!" Until finally he trotted cheerfully off to bed with Abba.

It's amazing that at 7am I was so frustrated I didn't know what to do with myself, but he still managed to remind me that he is the best, most wonderfulest boy in the whole wide world. That he loves us and we love him. And that the beautiful thing about being an "eewee" is at the end of the day, I get my hug and my kiss from a beautiful loving boy. Who could ask for more?

So here I am, 10:30 on Thursday night and only half done with my shabbos cooking, despite having made brownies and a kugel last night. Oops. Ah well. At least I got my share kisses and snuggles today.

It's those good times/moments that make me say "now *this* is what I signed up for!" heh

I'm glad BOTH of our days turned around!

I'm glad for it too. I had to get out of the fury of the day (and I do mean fury!) to be able to step back and love the whole thing and not just the few really good parts. But at least I did it eventually!

That was the best laugh I had all day -- not because it's funny, but because it's so true.

really, if I'd written that post mid-day it would have been a pissy, frustrated post. I'm glad time got away from me!
