PRODUCE!!!!!!!!!!! - Karen's Musings
Random Rambling
Yesterday marked our first produce delivery from Washington's Green Grocer. We received:

2 bunches Broccoli
bag o' Cremini Mushrooms
1 pint Grape Tomatoes
1 Seedless Cucumber
2 Ears Sweet Yellow Corn
1 Avocado
1 Zucchini
2 Kiwis
2 Valencia Oranges
1 bunch (forgot to count) Bananas
1 small Cantalope
2 Packham Pears
1 bunch green onions
2 bulbs garlic

Yum. The pears, bananas, and canteloupe are for Julian. The sweet corn is for Seth (I detest corn). The onions are for salad, as are the cucumber tomatoes, avacado, and mushrooms. Pineapple and Kiwi are for fruit salad. Just have to figure out what to do with the broccoli and the zucchini... (The oranges are for moi)

Broccoli is pretty nice steamed lightly, then sauteed with lots of garlic and ginger. (And you got garlic, yay!)

Zukes I tend to put in with other veggies, just because I don't adore them, but my mom used to steam/sautee them lightly with some onions, then melt cheese over the top, and that would be dinner. And it was excellent. (though more summery, to me)

Saute an onion in butter (or your non-dairy marg. if preferred) and then throw in sliced squash and cook til done. I had this last weekend, but with yellow squash instead of zucchini. I'll bet it would work.

Zuchini - I have a really good recipe with onions, sugar and tomato sauce. A really yummy side dish for shabbos. I haven't made it in a while, but if you want it, let me know and I'll dig out the recipe!

how much do you pay???

and zucchini makes great chips.

low fat point free zucchini chips:

spray a pan, slice zucchini thin and spray them. sprinkle with garlic and spices of yoru choice (i like butter buds) and then put in the oven on 350 until they're done. voila.

Broccoli and zucchini are just about my favourite veges.

If they're young (too often they get picked big) zucchini are great sliced and fried in a little olive oil, just long enough - they still should be opaque; broccoli are great lightly steamed or cut into small florettes and stir-fried.
