sleepless night

Instead of going to sleep at 9:30 last night as I would have liked to do, I decided to watch Finding Neverland. It's a very good movie, though something about it felt incomplete. Like it had just skimmed over too much...it was a very short movie, so it's not like they couldn't have afforded to take a bit extra time with some things. It doesn't change the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Still, had I known how the night was going to unfold, I probably would have gotten the sleep while I could.

In the middle of the movie, the monster woke up. He was pounding on his door so I knew he wasn't going back to sleep. I picked him up and he fell asleep immediately on my shoulder. So I put him back in bed. Just around the time the movie was over, I heard him crying again, so I went into his room and he was curled up on a pillow on the floor wimpering. When I went in and rubbed his back he stood up, looked at me, yawned, and then walked out of his room. He went to the dining room and pointed at his sippy cup of water, which I gave to him, then Seth gave him Ibuprofen (he's teething) and he went back to bed. Half an hour later, he was crying again, so I picked him up and brought him to my bed where I let him fall back to sleep and I transferred him back to his bed. By then it was a little after midnight which didn't thrill me.

At 1:30 he woke again. Screaming. As soon as I walked in, he was calm, put his head back on the pillow and reached for me so he could kiss me.

At 2:40ish he woke again. Just crying. He was curled up on the floor. It took about 20 minutes to calm him down. Then he fell back asleep.

Sometime around 4am he woke again. Same drill.

At 6am my alarm went off. I didn't hear it.

I still got to work at 7:28. Go me. But now I'm tired.

I should note that Julian ALWAYS sleeps through the night. The only times he's had an issue were a couple times he fell out of bed. That's different. But he NEVER does this up and down and up and down and up and down that most parents have to deal with.

Teething sux!
