poke me and die!

new acronym

I'm probably the most naive person on the planet for never having heard this one before, but it accurately describes my feelings today.

So Happy It's Thursday. S.H.I.T.

Sort of like TGIF, but better.

Nanny Crisis averted

So the nanny called in sick today. She doesn't call in sick often. And everyone's entitled to call in sick once in a while. But why, oh why couldn't she wait until Monday to get sick when we don't need her!? (Again, I'm not assigning blame, but it was just rotten timing). So I spent some time freaking out, called Julian's usual backup nanny when I could, she wasn't available. Crap. jeannegrrl generously offered to take Julian and I was about ready to take her up on it (though I'm loathe to wish a third child, particularly one as active as Julian, on anyone). Five more minutes and I would have been out the door on my way to Jeanne's when the phone rang.

My saviour was on the phone. Er. Well, Chanoch was on the phone. "I heard through the nanny grapevine that Gina is out sick and you're home with Julian and wanted to let you know that our nanny Roxanne can take Julian for the day."

I swear I think I heard angels singing "Hallelujah!"

I brought Julian down (the whole block and a half) to Roxanne and DASHED off to work.

Now I'm going to be at work late. Which means less time to go shopping and even less time to cook. 7 for shabbos tomorrow. It will all, of course, work, but DRAT! Fotunately, the chicken for tomorrow is cooked. Hopefully everything else will be too.

rescheduling my life

You may recall this entry in which I detailed my schedule for the foreseeable future. The bad thing is that I probably could fill that out all the way through the beginning of September (crud...I just remembered we have a wedding to go to Labor Day weekend. I mean, that's a good thing and all, but sheesh!).

Anyway, since I was late today because of the nanny crisis, worked half a day on Tuesday because of a dental appointment, and I'm out two days next week, I canceled my Dr.'s appointment tomorrow and rescheduled for 7:45 Wednesday. I'll still be late to work that day, but at least I won't be missing half a day for a late-morning appointment. This is just ridiculous. I just hope that my kidney infection has miraculously disappeared by then so that it's not a huge deal to miss tomorrow's appointment. Sigh.

Julian Update

Monday I was supposed to go to Jon's after work, but that got scrapped because I didn't get out of work early enough.  By the time I got home, Jack was getting ready for bed.  So I headed home before dashing off to mikveh duty.  I came home and found Julian and Seth giggling boisterously in the yard, but I couldn't see why until I turned the corner.  It had been so hot, that after some of the heat of the day burned off, Seth took Julian outside in his little swim trunks and gave him the hose with the sprayer.  Julian had a great time spraying water everywhere and it did not, apparently, take him long to discover that if he pointed the spray at Abba, Abba ran away.  Apparently, however, he also found out that if he directed the spray at himself, he got wet.  Which scared him, so he dropped the hose and ran away.  That is, until he remembered that he LIKES water.  Below there's a picture of Julian spraying ME as I was trying to take his picture.

Such a cutie, no?  Of course, I then had to go to Toys 'R Us and buy him an inflatable pool, sprinkler and a giant beach ball.  Hooray!  We haven't inflated the pool yet, but he loves the sprinkler and the beach ball.

I have, of course, updated my picture pages with pictures of all the fun!
