Rosh Hashana is over. I cooked too much food, of course, but a good time was had by all. And now the menu planning for Succos begins!

Do you find menu planning for Succot easier or harder than for other holidays, since there are no traditional foods that are definitely associated with the holiday?

Actually I hadn't thought of it that way. But then again, there isn't much that I make for Rosh Hashana that's especially prescribed other than the apples and honey. I usually do something with appley-goodness, but that's about it. For Rosh Hashana, though, there's plenty that I avoid using, which makes things a little tricky (no vinegar, no lemon juice, no nuts).

Succos planning is fun for me, because I get to do all sorts of "fall" dishes. I love the colors, tastes, smells and looks of fall, so this is a fun time for me to cook. I'll do a cranberry-apple torte, and use lots of garlicky goodness, and warm mushroom soups. Mmmm Mmmmm. Maybe even some Acorn Squash with brown sugar. Yummeroonies. Maybe (hah!) I'll even find time to make challah. Or not. We'll see. I think I'll roast chickens, though. Less work more payoff than brisket.
