menu for tomorrow

Tomorrow I am serving:

  • Gefilte Fish Patties
  • Spinach and Craisin Salad (Because I still have dressing leftover from Sunday that needs to be used)
  • Garlic and Rosemary Roast Chicken
  • Garlic Mashed Potatoes (alternatively, roasted potatoes)
  • Roasted Vegetables (squash, mushrooms, and peppers?)
  • Maybe some stuffed mushrooms.
  • dessert

Dessert will either be Pineapple Upsidedown Cake (which I've never made) or Pecan Pie.  Input is welcome (as are recipes).

I'm also trying to decide whether I should do a soup course, but I'm thinking because it's going to be so late...

Saturday we're going to be laid back with challah, fish cakes if I get around to making them as an appetizer, chicken salad (maybe also egg salad), marinated tomatoes, and probably a salad.  No dessert is likely unless I get ambitious.  Any thoughts?   Does it seem like not enough food?

Pineapple Upside-down Cake is always yummy. And it's easy to make. It gets my vote, especially if you put Maraschino cherries on top. ;) Maybe you could mail us a piece...

do you have a recipe?
yarbiedoll From: yarbiedoll Date: July 29th, 2004 09:23 am (UTC) (Link)
Sure. Do you want the involved version (which is not all that involved) or the shortcut version (which involves boxed ingredients)?
yarbiedoll From: yarbiedoll Date: July 29th, 2004 10:09 am (UTC) (Link)
I sent you an email with both.

Haven't gotten the email yet, but I'm sure it's on its way.

Cherries

But if the cherries are on top, aren't they on the bottom?

It's so confusing with upside down cake.

I tried to make it once, and the batter wouldn't stay in the pan. Took me days to clean the stove....

I'm with Seth.

Uh...so what time is dinner tomorrow night?

*drool*

It sounds wonderful.

Chocolate. Must have chocolate somewhere in there...or fruit pie...yum...

Re: I'm with Seth.

Dinner's probably around 8:30, depending on when the boys get out of shul. I'm pretty sure you could catch a flight here with plenty of time! :)

And no on the chocolate. I've been getting too many migraines as of late.

Re: I'm with Seth.

I'll see what I can do in terms of flight times.. ;o)

Oh, I forgot, chocolate gives you migraines... =o(

Hmmmmm... You're having meat, so no dairy (ice cream).

*sigh*

<---trying to think of something for dessert...

I only have to deal with shabbos lunch this week because for the second week in a row we have an invitation out. That's cool because we can be social on Friday and good for nothing lazy bums on shabbos day. Your menu looks delicious and more than enough food--you will have leftovers!

I have used the following recipe before to rave reviews:

Looks good, though I'm going to have to put that one off because one of the people coming tomorrow night is allergic to all citrus.

Kudos to you for inspiring me to go shabbos shopping this afternoon. This will make tomorrow much easier for me!! Joel is SOOOO happy about corned beef and cabbage.

Why, oh why, do I always do this to myself? I have nothing (except a cake) cooked. The salmon for the salmon cakes is cooked, but that doesn't do me a lot of good if the cakes never get put together and cooked. Sigh.

Glad you got inspired though, and I'm very happy that Joel is happy.
