and now for something completely different.
I thought it might be good to have a happy journal entry for once.

Shabbos was very nice. We went to dinner at Jen and Seth's (different Seth) and were joined by Daniel and Stevie (who are engaged and very cute). I skipped shul and went over to play with Jen and her 2 month old baby, Etian before the rest of the group got there. I had a good time talking with Jen, which is something I don't do nearly often enough. I like Jen a lot. Unfortunately, she and Seth are leaving for Uzbekistan (sp?) in November for at least two years. Seth has an uber-classified spy job. I don't know if he's really a spy. He probably isn't. But it's fun to think of him that way. So they're moving. So I ought to try and enjoy their company as much as possible before they go away. We had a lovely dinner with sushi appetizers (I hate sushi, but it was cool that they did it and my Seth liked it, so that's all that mattered), a wonderful oriental mandarin orange salad, kung pao chicken, and sweet and sour meatballs. Yum.

I was very tired and I knew I wouldn't make it to shul today, as I've been running low on steam all week, for no good reason. So I slept in today. And it was joyous. I got up before Seth came home from shul so that I could get his lunch ready. He came home earlier than I'd anticipated, so I wasn't quite ready for him, but it turned out that he didn't want me to feed him; he just wanted to go straight to sleep. No problemo. So he went to sleep (after I stopped chattering at him). I slept a good deal of the day as well. Friday after work I had managed to make some salmon cakes for what would have been a fish course for lunch if we'd had lunch, so we ended up munching on the salmon cakes when we were hungry. It worked. And they were mighty tasty. I started a new book, The Secret Life of Bees which is excellent. It was recommended by my best friend, Diana, but I hadn't gotten around to reading it. I am concurrently reading Farhenheidt 451 which I have shamefully never read. Sometimes I wonder why it takes me so long to read books, but I think it's really because I'm never reading just one at a time, and also because I tend to read right before bed, which means I read a page or two and then fall asleep. I wish I could find more time to read, but every time I curl up with a book, I feel like I ought to be doing something else with my time. Who gave me the luxury to sit around and read a book when there's still unpacking to be done?

Anyway, Seth did wake up at some point for a brief period, but then returned to sleep (I eventually fell back asleep on the couch with my book). Around 7:45, I woke him up, because I figured he would want to be awake. Good timing on my part as that got him up just in time for shul.

After Shabbos, I spent some time dealing with some long overdue kitchen junk. There were piles of meat dishes to be done, and now they are all done. Whoo hoo. I cleaned the cinnamon off the counter top so that I'd be able to use it tomorrow. Here's hoping that it doesn't get infested with ants before tomorrow. I take a little too much pleasure in their deaths, so I think I need to simply be ant-free, so I can cease finding new ways to torture them. It doesn't bring out the best side of me. Sigh. Also after Shabbos, once Seth returned from shul and such, we made a grocery list and a list of all the sundry little things that need to be picked up in sundry places, and a short list of things that need to be done in general (like call an exterminator, find an electrician, research and find a kitchen contractor dude, etc.)

We talked a little bit more (calmly this time) about things we might like to see happen in the kitchen. I don't want to talk too specifically about how I want it until we can talk to someone about some of the possibilities (including things that maybe I wouldn't have thought of). Most importantly, before I get my heart set on anything, I want to find out once and for all whether a piece of that brick wall can come down. We'll see.

Anyway, I've got a long day ahead tomorrow. All good things, but plenty to accomplish, so I should go and focus on those things for a while.

Oh, and by the way, I didn't point it out in a previous post, but I love my new icon. Go me!

I too was tired during dinner. I was pleased that I made it through without caffeine augmentation or being too antisocial. I'm thinking the Muppet conversation helped. :)

We should talk before we go to J&K's. I think we have stuff for them, but I can only guess as to where.
