We're bidding on a house! We're bidding on a house! Oy vey, we're bidding on a house! It's a helluva lot of money we're looking at spending. Sheesh.

Anyway, it's a positively adorable little Tudor in Silver Spring built in 1940. Big problems? 2: First the kitchen is smaller than my 1/2 bathroom in my current house. And second, there's no central AC. I can live with those, because they're both fixable. Yes, there are other problems, but they're all decorative and are just going to take time to fix.

And I'm really upset because I'm getting attached to this house already and odds are good that we won't get it, but I'm so hopeful and I'm really excited that maybe we will, but I'm worried about being disappointed if we don't, and I'm not making sense, but it is SO NIFTY!

Current Mood: excited excited

Yay house! I hope it works out.

For what it's worth, we did not get the first house we bid on and the next week we found something much better that we ultimately got. So even if you don't get it, don't lose heart. Your house is out there.

First of all, you didn't see how adorable this house is. Even Seth is willing to live with no central AC for a while.

Window units will do for the time being and then we'll put in central AC. No biggie.

This is all assuming that we win the contract.

Is there central heat? Because if there is, adding AC isn't a big deal. If there isn't, you might have a problem.

And if you win the contract, be sure to get a home inspector. And do NOT take one recommended by your realtor. We're paying that expensive price right now.

It's a moot point, unfortunately.
We didn't win the bid.
I think my realtor was more depressed than me. ;)

Depends on the type of heat. Forced-air is no problem. Where I live, radiators seem to be more common.

And do NOT take one recommended by your realtor.

Yup. A useful organization to know: ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors). Your mortgage company may or may not require an inspection by an ASHI-certified inspector anyway, but even if not it's probably a good idea. I was happy with mine.

My suspicion is that what he meant by "central heat" was forced air.

At any rate, it's a moot point, since we didn't get the house, but we'll find something else. Maybe even something closer. Hah!

As for the organization, in Jon's case, the home inspector that they used that was an incompetent moron was certified by two such organizations, so unfortunately, that's not fool-proof either. Scary stuff!

House is great...House is good...

I hope you get it. I honestly can't believe how expensive it is...

No A/C. Whoa. That must be one *cool* house. (No pun intended.)

Re: House is great...House is good...

It woulda been fixable... the A/C I mean.
Anyway, it's a moot point... someone made an offer with an escalation 50K above ours.

Re: House is great...House is good...

Oh, I'm sorry. That SUCKS. You'll get a new higher paying job and I betcha if you wait, you'll find something that's a good fit in the area you want. Though waiting is NO fun.

Re: House is great...House is good...

I'm willing to be patient. My goal is to be in a new house absolutely no later than Pesach.
