SouthBeach
Southbeach starts now.

Our carbs have been donated to the Hillel and Jeanne Fund for Excellence.

Our kitchen is a mess and I don't care.

Vegetable Quiche Cups to Go (our breakfast for tomorrow) are in the oven.

Day One lunches are made, bagged, and in the fridge to take to work.

There are no excuses for me forgetting to eat breakfast, forgetting to eat lunch, or forgetting to take my glucophage. I even have snacks. So I really can't complain TOO much.

Here we go....

Wheeeeeeeeee!

Current Mood: determined

I don't know about more. But certainly healthier. It doesn't seem SO horrible. It's just an adjustment. But we can't keep putting it off. We are too round and too unhealthy to keep putting it off.

What's made you choose South Beach as opposed to WW or Atkins?
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: March 15th, 2004 04:37 am (UTC) (Link)
I gained weight on WW.

Atkins isn't a viable diet for me because I've had 9 kidney stones, so I can't go into ketosis on purpose. Also, it exacerbates my migraines. My husband has done Atkins. He successfully lost 30 pounds and gained 40 back.... twice.

So, SB it is.

Will do. I expect I'll be posting about it regularly-ish.

Good luck. I'm Atkins-ing again right now.

No one diet works for everyone. The key is to find one that works for you, and here's hoping yours is South Beach.

oh, I know that. And I know that you were wildly successful with it before. My issues with Atkins are mostly my particular health issues which put me in conflict with Atkins (plus, I really don't like meat that much), plus I find very few people who have been able to maintain on Atkins.

Wishing you much luck -- I'm currently trying (without much luck, but I will keep trying) to move myself back towards Atkins. (Bli ayin hara, I don't have a kidney stone problem, so it works for me.)

yeah, it works for a lot of people, and it's obvious why.

Hopefully it will work for you and SB will work for me!

I think it works for me because I have fairly strong sensitivities to carbs. Refined flour, refined sugar, whole wheat flour, raw cane sugar, rice, potatoes, sweet fruits, legumes, corn -- they all affect me like a drug (to varying degrees) and go through my system alarmingly quickly. Yet these are precisely the foods I crave. It's crossed my mind that I should go to a nutritionist and see about getting tested for food sensitivities and/or allergies, but so far I've been too lazy. :[

Good luck on South Beach!

I'll be curious to see how it goes, cause I need to lose 40 lbs, myself...
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: March 15th, 2004 09:14 am (UTC) (Link)
I could stand to lose 80. I'll settle for 40.

Well, if I could lose just 20 lbs, that would be a start...but I hear ya...

break a leg!

having known several people who've done Atkins vs SB, I think that South Beach is the way to go . . . a large part of it being that Atkins is a specific function of retooling your metabolism for short-term weight loss, and was never really designed to be used long-term. Whereas South Beach is sort of a life-style change. . . .

regardless, wish you the best, and remember to exercise regularily too! (being big on that, what with the dad being confirmed diabetic and me borderline, these days . . . )
