I'm sure she'll be fine overall. After all, it's still a net gain of one step forward. So she's overall doing fine. I'm just a nervous momma.

Oh no. I hope she gets them back soon.

me too! That was awfully careless of her to misplace something so valuable!

Ah yes, the fun and exciting rollercoaster of infant weight gain/loss. It's actually *more* stressful than being on a diet oneself. Who knew?

Take heart! In her time in the hospital, Yael was up and down like the biggest rollercoaster at King's Dominion. They told us she could go home if she gained weight two days in a row.

It took her two weeks to manage that feat. ::snort::

It's all good. It just caught me by surprise.

It was still a big net gain. It is still progress. This is just one day.

she was pretty difficult to feed yesterday and has been a bit pokey today, which is part of what got me curious. I'm not going to check again before her next appointment on Thursday.

Oy. It sounds like this is going to be a back and forth thing until it takes.

On a lighter note: I've got 40 lbs of body fat I'd be happy to donate a portion of...

Yeah, I've still got 40 pounds I'd gladly donate!

NURSE! Ice cream sundae with extra fudge and whipped cream, STAT!

Good luck. She'll be fine, don't you worry. *nodnodnod*

aw, we're cheering for her! good luck!
did you change her eating habits again since the dr's visit?
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: February 10th, 2008 07:31 pm (UTC) (Link)
No, though she was a bit weird about eating yesterday. She ate slightly more often than usual, but less per feeding. But overall, same number of calories in the day as she would otherwise have gotten.

Sorry to hear, but a certain amount of day-to-day up-and-down is to be expected, even when she's not off her food for a day.

What's the difference in weight of a full vs empty bladder, for example?

If one day she has a full bladder at weigh-in and the next she has am empty one, she might appear to have lost weight.

And we discovered a surprising amount of variation in the measurements of height and weight over even longer time periods (even given the measurements were done by professionals). Our kids' growth charts at times looked more like schemata of fairground rides than real growth curves. You could still pick out trends, but individual wiggles we had to stop putting too much trust in.

I agree with this -- and also wanted to add how much and if she ate right before the weigh in. If she had eaten a 4 ounce bottle an hour before, that could have contributed to the weight gain.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: February 11th, 2008 02:08 am (UTC) (Link)
She hadn't eaten for two hours before her weigh in last Thursday and had just peed. Today when I weighed her, she had just finished eating three ounces.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: February 11th, 2008 02:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
I agree with this in theory, except that you can see the loss in her face and in the way her diapers fit her. With a baby that small you can see the loss. Plus, the weight on Thursday was taken 2 hours after eating, and the weight on Sunday was taken immediately after she ate, so if anything, it probably underestimated the amount of the loss.

At any rate, I'm not planning to take any more actual weights for Ellie before her next appointment on Thursday. I'll still take her before and after feeding weights, but those are fully-clothed, fully-diapered weights, not real-weights, so they don't count. I've increased her calorie count a little, so hopefully that will make a difference between now and Thursday.

thanks. She'll be fine, and it's not a *huge* setback or anything. It's just really disconcerting.
