Update
It's been a long week.
Julian's been sick all week. He seems better now, but I kept him home today anyway, because most of the week he's been feeling rotten even on days that started okay. SO... we'll just try again next week. Meanwhile, Julian is happily playing with markers and has already played with play-doh for half an hour. He's currently very proud of himself because he's drawing circles. Lots of circles. I'm not feeling well today either, but I think part of it is allergies and part of it is sleep deprivation. The rest of it, I fear, is Julian's germies. Le Sigh.

Julian is now in a time out screaming about what a mean mommy I am because I won't give him cookies at 9 in the morning.

I have been forgetting to post menus. If I remember correctly, Last shabbos we had:
  • Soup, provided by Harold
  • Meat & Spinach Lasagna
  • Roast Beast
  • Green salad
  • Tomato Salad
  • Garlic Bread
  • Broccoli (thanks, Harold)
  • Green Beans
  • Orzo Salad
  • Raspberry & Almond Torte from the Pastry Oven

Tuesday evening, I ventured into mid-week cooking (an unusual endeavor). I made Green Beans tossed with sauteed onions and toasted Pine Nuts, Roast Potatoes, and Boneless Rib-Eye Steaks (seasoned with garlic, pepper, and dash of kosher salt). It was pretty darned good, if I do say so myself.

Tonight we will have:
  • Challah (I baked it last night, yum)
  • No fish course because I messed it up. Oops.
  • No soup because I am lazy
  • Meatballs
  • Rice
  • Garlic Bread
  • Grean beans with onions & pine nuts
  • Tomato Salad
  • Green Salad
  • Whatever Seth got from the Pastry Oven for Dessert

That should do it. Simple, but nice.

I have an actual Julian update to do, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Soon, I hope.

Whatever Seth got from the Pastry Oven for Dessert

A scrumptious-looking pear torte. Mmm...

Of course, we lawyers love tortes!

Isn't there some sort of law against torte-ture?

I had a real good example yesterday at work of why you should keep Julian's paperwork with you at all times. It was an ugly situation and I got cussed up one side and down the other by an irate parent, but the legal guardian showed me the paperwork and the irate parent had to sit and spin.

For tonight

Want I should do soup again? It'll be the same soup, however, because that's what I have time for.

There is a chance I can also make a fish loaf if you want.

Finally, when I get Aaron, can I drop off a box of the Tofuti "cuties" for him to have for dessert?

Re: For tonight

There are already cuties for Aaron. Karen plans ahead.

Re: For tonight

I'm going to throw a fish loaf in the oven this afternoon, so we're good. Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it. I had made salmon cakes but something went terribly wrong.

We have cuties in the freezer, but you're welcome to drop them off if he's particular about flavor.

Temper tantrum cos he can't have cookies at 9 AM? Gee, that sounds familiar. Isn't winter with small children fun? :/

In the absense of cheese, what do you use to hold the lasagna together? (I mean, what keeps it from being a stack of noodles and stuff that will fall apart as soon as you take a slice out of the pan?) Are you using fake cheese, or is there some other trick to this?

(I think I asked someone, possibly even you, this question once before, but if so I filed the answer in a "clever" place instead of a retrievable one.)

I don't use any cheese or fake stuff. Sometimes it holds together all by itself, sometimes it becomes a pile of goo. But tasty goo...

If you cook it long enough, the noodles sort of disolve and they almost taste/feel like cheese. It's weird. Also, I don't precook the noodles, which I think keeps the noodles from getting slimy, so I think that helps it hold it's shape.
