Holy Schmoly
Christie Brinkley is 51 years old.  She looks younger than me.  And if she's 51 then I'm GETTING OLD.

Holy Cow. I have never looked like that. I don't think most of us look that good at 25. Another reason to hate her!

no kidding.

that is a recent picture. Recently released by Cover Girl. They are launching a new campaign with Christie as their spokeswoman for a new line of makeup aimed at women over 30. Oh fooey. I'm almost at their target range. DRAT.

I am in their target range too, and I am a woman who buys makeup.

I don't think I've ever looked that good either. *shrug* :-)

You've never had the power of the airbrush.

I bet in real life she looks just like me. Short, round and plain.

Heh. I'll be 42 in November. I don't buy a lot of makeup, though. David keeps eating my lipsticks, so I'm waiting until he outgrows that. Did you go to many movies as a teenager? If so, and you want to feel really old, look for recent photos of Anthony Michael Hall (the geeky kid from The Breakfast Club), like these.

And in my googling, I find I am five years older than he is. Waaah! I need a new icon for feeling ancient.

Want to feel really reall old? Watch his new show "The Dead Zone" where you can see him act like an adult! Scary! Remember "Sixteen Candles"?
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: August 16th, 2005 05:14 pm (UTC) (Link)
Heh. I wasn't a teenager when The Breakfast Club came out, but I've seen it 9 billion times. And holy shnykies! I had no idea he grew up! As far as I'm concerned, he'll ALWAYS be that geeky kid, despite the fact that he's 8 years older than me.

And Ally Sheedy! Boy did SHE grow up! Emilio Estevez looks exactly the same to me. Weird.

I don't think feeling old is a function of chronological age. I don't think my father, who is 56 is old. I don't think my 78 year old grandfather is old either. But I do feel old myself sometimes. Just, I guess, older and different than I pictured me being. I sort of got frozen in time around 18 or 19 in my mind, but sometimes that image thaws and I realize I'm almost 30, I have a husband, house, a kid, student loans, car (I never thought I'd even get my driver's license, which is why the car is significant), and I'm pretty happy. I guess I really didn't imagine what those things would be like (particularly the student loans).

Hmm. You seem to have misspelled "airbrushed" so badly it looked like "released".

But, yeah, some people are lucky with the genes controlling facial structure and such.

Behold the power of airbrushing.

oh good point.

My thought, too.

And pots and pots of money to be able to get time to exercise/surgery/etc doesn't hurt either.

Don't forget that hair dye! Great skin and a fast metabolism she may have, but her real color has got to be grey by now.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: August 16th, 2005 04:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
well, yeah, but I don't have a problem with hair dye. I mean, I cover up my gray with a sheitel, why should the yidden be the only ones blessed with that ability?

(also, she's blonde, I think naturally so believe it or not, so her gray may be more subtle regardless)
leahmiriam From: leahmiriam Date: August 16th, 2005 04:59 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, blondes go grey faster than brunettes.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: August 16th, 2005 05:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
see, that's not been my experience, at least through observation. Maybe blondes just hide it better, then. Redheads, in my limited experience, go gray the quickest.
leahmiriam From: leahmiriam Date: August 16th, 2005 05:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
Redheads do go gray the quickest...blondes hide it best but tend to go that way faster than brunettes.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: August 16th, 2005 05:15 pm (UTC) (Link)
hrm. I started going gray a long time ago. Seth started going gray when he was 18.

You guys are simply ahead of your time :)

Looks kinda fuzzy. You sure it wasn't photographed through cheesecloth?

estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: August 16th, 2005 02:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
that's partly because I made it smaller. The larger version wasn't really fuzzy.

...and remember, she's had 3 kids.

G-d bless good genes. And plastic surgeons.

and airbrushing as Karl was kind enough to point out.

Harumph.

Well, I highly doubt she'd look this way in person... between the surgeries, digital photo manipulation, hemmroid cream (lessens puffy eyes), make up job, etc...

Even without all that...I'm sure she'd still look stunning, but in a more natural way. Like Georgia O'Keefe.

Re: Harumph.

hemmorhoid cream lessens puffy eyes? I'd think that would be a dangerous thing to put near your eyes!

Hrm. Christie Brinkley ==> Georgia O'Keefe. Er. Considering the only pictures I've ever seen of Georgia O'Keefe are from when she was far older, I don't see it, but I'm amused by it!

Re: Harumph.

I agree, I wouldn't put Prep H near my eyes, but apparently it's a common practice for professional photo shoots. I heard this on NPR! It must be true! ;o)

Georgia O'Keefe was stunning when she was younger. And my understanding is that she aged relatively gracefully. Alfred Stielgeitz (sp) as well as a few photographers took some breathaking b/w photo (including nudes) of O'Keefe.

My theory is that beautiful women like Brinkley hit a tipping point where they one look old. And what makes them beautiful is their ability to deal with aging. Like Lauren Bacall, who is very regal...plus she dissed Tom Cruise, which is very cool in my book... Anyway. I digress.

i just saw her in an ad for some exercise equipment and thought she looked great. gah!
either_or From: either_or Date: August 16th, 2005 04:44 pm (UTC) (Link)
at the time, though (yesterday), i thought she was probably 40 or so. now that i know that she's about the same age as MY MOM...

!!!
real_bethy From: real_bethy Date: August 16th, 2005 04:52 pm (UTC) (Link)
She probably stays so thin by eating a big bowl of sugar coated smack every day. I wonder where she finds her host bodies?:)

She's pretty, but I think I would rather look like I've lived at little at 51. I'm just shy of 25 now and I have a baby face.
leahmiriam From: leahmiriam Date: August 16th, 2005 05:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
Truthfully, I would love to look like that NOW at 35 let alone at 51 after three kids, three marriages, and years of not eating. I don't think she is a drug taker
