unmotivated miscellany
I have been unmotivated to post recently. I'm not sure why. I'm also not caught up with my friends list, though I am still working on it. If there's anything you think I ought to know about your life, comment here or email me.

Last Shabbos we had a small crowd for dinner... Nigel, Keely, Stevie, Daniel, and the Felds. I was feeling lazy so I made lasagna. Meat lasagna, of course. No cheese. So there was Mushroom & Onion soup with orzo, green salad, lasagna, sauteed mushrooms & leeks, garlic bread, tomato salad, cucumber salad, and fruit for dessert. I think that was it. It was a lovely night, with lots of good conversation, and what I'm told was tasty food (I didn't try the lasagna). Lunch was eaten out at the Becker-Rubins. We had a delightful dairy meal with two kinds of fish, pasta, incredible fruit salad, green beans, asparagus, rice, and strawberry shortcake.

This shabbos we are having Jo & Cary, Stevie & Daniel, Ellen, Ruth, Liora, Yael & Binyamim, Nigel, and Harold & Becky. Including Seth and myself, that's 14 people. Yes, 14. Meh. 14 isn't that different than 8 or 10 or 12, right? I'm doing Snappy Ginger Salmon, Tofu Dip (I hope), Some Kind of Chicken, Chicken, and more Chicken, Rice, Potato Kugel, Tomato Salad, Cucumber Salad, Green Beans, Green Salad with Mandarin Oranges and raspberry vinaigrette. Oh and fruit (from Stevie & Daniel) for dessert plus something baked that Ellen will bring. And it will be yummy. I hope. And crowded. And this is fine.

I have done no cooking yet. I haven't even done shopping yet. It will be a late night.

I am totally devoid of shabbos inspiration. I would love to get the whole thing on carry out. Good thing we have dinner out.

And you wonder why I haven't gotten my oven replaced.....

I have I ever mentioned just how much I appreciate comming over like this. Especially given the work load recently.

Gonna miss you while we're at Pennsic. Or maybe we can convince Monica to have as all at Pittsburgh. :-)

Re: And you wonder why I haven't gotten my oven replaced.....

You are always welcome at our shabbos/yom tov table; you should know that by now. It is a joy to have you as often as you are willing to come. Just be ready for a big crowd tomorrow night. There are 14 of us, including Seth & me.

No need to miss you while you're at Pennsic. We'll be in Florida next Shabbos, so we wouldn't have been able to host you anyway.

14 Shabbos guests! Kol Ha Kavod! You never cease to amaze me.

Don't be impressed or anything. Hachnasas Orchim is about the only mitzvah I'm good at. And even then, I don't always achieve all I could.

Oh, don't say things like that. I'm sure you fulfill many mitzvos very well.

fulfill? Sure. Fulfill well? Um... well, there's the whole kosher thing, though I could do more. But there's so little that I do and do well. It's sort of sad. I seem to have lost my enthusiasm along the way. I'm sure I'll find it again.

I went through an unenthusiastic period a few years ago. It was horrible for me because I knew I'd been so motivated in earlier years, especially in my initial teshuva, then my year in sem, and then becoming Chassidishe. Baruch Hashem, mitzvah goreres mitzvah. I went to a really good Shabbaton for an organization I was motivated to serve, and then opportunities for chesed began to pop up in my life. And the great thing about doing chesed is, Hashem rewards you with chesed. He took care of my main need: He got me out of Brooklyn. That was like a personal geulah. May Hashem send you a personal geulah and may klal Yisroel have its geulah this year.
