lousy mood
I don't know what's been up, but I've been in a lousy mood for a few days. And today's "holiday" party at work just made it worse. Normally, I enjoy these things even if I don't participate. But it just irritated me today.
Why be so insistent on calling it a holiday party when there are christmas trees (multiple), red and green decorations, Santa Hats, Candy Canes, Christmas Carols, etc.
Seriously, this doesn't usually bother me. But this year it's just irritating me. And it wasn't because there was nothing there that I could eat...I knew going into it that I wouldn't be able to eat anything.

It's just... I don't know.

Ugh.

I'm with you.

Heck, I didn't bother going to the company 'Holiday Party' this year...

Sympathy

Sadly, I get that way every year. It is hard to be a minority. It isn't so much intolerance on the part of our co-workers; that we could be angry about. It is the sheer lack of knowledge and interest in looking outside of a specific worldview.

Here's a story that will resonate with you: a few years back, I was 'surprised' one morning in December with a live pine wreath on my office door. The office staff simply couldn't understand why it bothered me. It certainly wasn't worth alienating my co-workers to insist they remove it. Is it any wonder that the constant barrage of these things causes disgruntlement?

Try not to let it bother you *too* much.

OTOH, Xmas eve looks like a good time to go see LoTR.

Actually...I have to say that the last two holiday parties my office had were truly non-denominational. They were formal affairs and were more about a year end wrap up for the company than anything else...that's where promotion announcements were made, awards were given, etc.

This year the party was held in our office with a magician, games for the kids and our office manager decorated it with wreaths, garlands, trees and all the other accoutrements of xmas. Hence, my non-attendance.

Don't be in a lousy mood. This entry was written 5 days after I turned 30.

I'm an old man.
