Shabbos Menu
Somehow, Thursday crept up on me, which means tomorrow is shabbos. So I've got 7 guests (plus ourselves) to feed and no menu. How did that happen? So I'm going for simple. One of the people coming is allergic to citrus (so no fresh-squeezed lemonade), another is allergic to pineapple (so that took out another option).

Here's what we'll be having if I get my act together:
  • Mushroom & Onion Soup (with or without barley? With or without sausage? So many quesitons!)
  • Lasagna (meat lasagna...no cheese)
  • Green salad
  • Marinated Tomato Salad (if I can find heirloom tomatoes, I'll use those)
  • Asparagus
  • maybe Cucumbers
  • Garlic Bread
  • Fruit for dessert
Hopefully, it will be enough. Because that's what I'm making. I don't have time and energy for much more than that.

Your menu sounds delicious!

another is allergic to pineapple (so that took out another option)

If that person is beckyfeld, please tell her I say hi. :-)

it is indeed, becky. I've almost poisoned her a couple of times! They've been here the last several weeks (since their oven was niftar), so NO PINEAPPLE FOR ME!

Just to pick a nit :-)

Definitely pineapple for you, since you now have that useful implement. Just not this Shabbat, when Becky's over :-)

Well, yes. Since I typically have pineapple every shabbos, and at no other time, and since Becky has been here every shabbos for a few weeks, there has been no pineapple for me.

Mind you, I'd much rather have Becky as a guest than pineapple as a menu choice, so it's not really an issue.

I recall a couple of times, when Becky and I were younger, that I was her designated taster. I got very good at finding the pineapple in things. Noodle kugel was a particular culprit; lots of people put pineapplie in their noodle kugels, for reasons that defy my understanding.

I don't care for sweet noodle kugel, so it defies my understanding too.

Huh. I'd always thought the pineapple thing was something that happened when she was pregnant with Aaron and never went away. Maybe that's something else. Spicy food, maybe?

Apparently, if I used canned pineapple, she'd be okay. But I don't like canned pineapple.

It may have gotten worse when she was pregnant with Aaron; I'm not honestly sure.

And I agree with you on canned pineapple -- the real stuff is much, much better.

Totally unrelated:
I just looked at your biography on your userinfo. I love that quote! It's my favorite Nancy Button (my husband has a zillion of them and that is by far my favorite... that, and: "All syllogisms have three parts; therefore, this is not a syllogism.")

I use "thingy" a lot. It occurred to me a number of years ago that my company has a number of words that we use in the documentation (I'm a technical writer) that basically mean "thingy" -- entity, object, item, etc. I wondered if anyone would notice if I just used "thingy" instead.

*snicker*

Who reads the documentation anyway? Er, well, me. But that's one of my jobs. Thingy, sometimes, is far more descriptive.

she's fine. Don't have time to email right now. Will email you later. She's fine, LJ Drama wields it's ugly head too often, I guess.

Glad to hear she's fine -- I got a bit worried ... :(

Where does your recipe for a meat-only lasagna come from? What holds it together?

er, I'm in a rush to go make it, but I'll try to remember to tell you later.
