I suppose I should go buy the dreaded Blumenkrantz already. Maybe I'll order it online so I can pretend I didn't mean to get it.

THAT is the evil Blumenkrantz. He is evil, or at least his book is.

We can't get this locally?

you can get it locally, but none of the local stores have websites and I was trying to illustrate it to Steve.

Why is the book evil? I find it extremely helpful.

It's evil for two reasons:

1. Yes, it's very helpful for most things, but there are a lot of things that he is just ridiculous about in unnecessary ways. I won't point out what they are, because I don't have this year's edition in front of me, but there's always a thing or five that are over the top.

2. Though it is helpful, having to buy it means that it's that time of year. In a lot of ways I love cleaning for Pesach. It's just that I've been so overwhelmed this year I'm already behind in my normal Pesach routine. So it's just another reminder that I'm not doing enough yet.

The book is not, in and of itself, evil. It's just what it represents that is vexing me right now.

Ah. Got it. I use it mostly for the lists of kosher cosmetics and such. Though this year I will probably use it more since I am cleaning the house for pesach.

Star-K publishes a MUCH SMALLER booklet with a list of kosher cosmetics, medications, cleaning supplies, etc. I find that far less annoying and far more useful.

Blumenkrantz

That book is in need of an editor. DIRE NEED.

Though I did get a great recipe for baked apples there. Got leftover charoses? Core apples, fill them with charoses, and bake in water and wine.

Re: Blumenkrantz

Neat recipe!!

The thing that bothers me is that literally no one knows who he is. I mean, they know who he is, except that he only appears at Pesach time. He doesn't write on any other topic, he doesn't have any other forum.

I'm sure he knows his halacha. I'm sure his interpretation is valid. I have no doubt that it's a good reference.

But I also think it's poorly written and clearly not edited at all.

Re: Blumenkrantz

He's fairly well known in New York. He lives in Far Rockaway, is the Rov of a shul there, and also does marriage counseling.

Re: Blumenkrantz

That's interesting, because it was NY Jews that kept repeatedly affirming that the only time he ever popped up was around Pesach. And I mean fairly well-connected NY Jews (several not far from Far Rockaway).

Well, I take back that complaint then. But I still respectfully request that he find an editor.

I love your icon. Wow.

Now how is that involved in Indian hair sheitels....
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: March 30th, 2005 05:15 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, that's my domestic goddess icon, though I rarely deserve the icon anymore. And don't even get me started on the sheitel mishegas!

Yeah, I remember that floating around before, but I was never able to watch it because I don't have sound on my computer at work and I forgot once I got home. I'll try to remember tonight when I get home to watch it.
