Tour of the house renovations

If you've already stumbled on these pictures on my .mac account, then you've already seen them.  For those of you who haven't, let's take a little tour:

This is the outside of our house.  Cute, huh?  This picture looks a little weird, but it's really quite a normal looking house.

This is the kitchen before we moved in.  The paneling was cracked and damaged and sticky and oogy.  So we tore it down.  (Thanks, eldridgeprime).  Note the disgusting floor and the closed off space above the cabinets.  Those are both gone.  New floor, and the paneling has been removed above the cabinets revealing that there is a wide open space up there.

This, obviously, is after the paneling was torn down (but before we replaced the floor).  Note the guacamole-green peeling disgusting paint.  Also note the gashes in the plaster.  No wonder they covered it all up!

Same wall with wallpaper.  Seth was still putting it up, and it was still wet (so it actually looks much better now), but that'll give you an idea.

Here's the opposite wall.  It's coming along, but we do have a ways to go (like putting up molding.  Hopefully eldridgeprime is still willing to be hired for that.  Not to fear...it'll be a while before we can get molding up.)

And now.... on to the basement:

This is the TV room before we moved in.  The furniture, thankfully, is not ours and never was.  It's not there anymore.  Whew!  Note the black and red checkered tile.  Also the faux brick paneling on the walls.  EW.  We'll get to the walls someday but they're a project for some other day.  The curtains are still there too, but I'm working on that.

Hooray for new tile!!!

This is our ridiculous bathroom in the basement.  That's going to take a lot of time to work on, but we're starting with the floor.  The shower is even funnier, but I'm not posting that just yet.

This is the hallway between the bathroom and the TV room.  You can see that progress has been made.  Most of the remaining tiles are tiles that I need Seth to cut.

That's the progress so far.  More to come (I hope)!

TV room

But you've made it so much harder to play checkers on the floor!
;-)

Re: TV room

I'll let you in on a little secret:

I don't consider that a bad thing. :)

I find it interesting that you started with the floor in that bathroom... wasn't there the whole "this is so bad I don't know where to start" conversation?

Hey, you figured out where to start! :-)

I started with the floor because I started in the TV room with the floor (to brighten up the room) and it naturally extended into the kitchen. So I guess that the floor decided for me that it was the place to start!

Is that panelling in your bathroom or wallpaper. It really looks like your bathroom and mine were male/female twins separated at birth. I have the same look on my walls except in RED. It's quite frightening actually. I wonder if our builders were related in some way.

The bathroom has wallpaper. Disgusting wallpaper, covering up PLYWOOD, which is about the dumbest thing ever to build a bathroom wall out of. I'd say our builders were related, except that this house was built in 1937 and I'm pretty sure the bathroom was added about 20 years ago by the woman that owned the house at the time (her grandson was a contractor, so I'm betting he did it for her).

Plus, it's not like we have, you know, physical proximity to one another.

Ours was built in 1948. And it hasn't been redecorated since. We're working slowly, but it's not capable of being patched. We have to do the contractor thing and spend uber money to have it all redone. Slowly, slowly.

People have relatives in far away places... anything is possible.

Woo hoo! Congrats on the successful good-taste transplant. :-)

If you'd kept that original floor in the basement, you'd have had to get some giant chess pieces to decorate with.

checkers, m'dear, checkers.

And the original floor is still in Seth's office. Haven't gotten to that room yet, since my priority was to take care of the room YOU'D be in first.

I love the kitchen wallpaper! So pretty.

it's fun. The problem with most wallpapers that wouldn't look out of place in a kitchen, is that they're all flowery "country kitchen" kinds of papers. That's all fine and dandy, but my husband looks ridiculous surrounded by flowery goodness. Plus, I prefer something more simple. The stripes are much more subtle in person, and it's very bright and cheery, which makes me happy. :)

I don't like flowers. Stripes are much classier.

I like flowers just fine... cut and in a vase. ;)

Hey, what can I say? I'm a classy lady! Or, um, something.

I bought pink tulips to put on the shabbos table this week - so pretty.... ;)

Hoooray! I love tulips.

And daffodils.

You've done a lot of work. I will now stop bitching about my plumbing, since that's pretty much all I need to fix.

:0) You're making me want to take pics of my home!
