Air Conditioning
Whoo hoo!! We are one step closer to having central air.

We're going to have Air Conditioning this summer! And a heat pump. Er, not that we'll need the heat pump this summer...

Oh chill out, it was NOT that bad last summer. I only fear that this summer won't be mild the way last summer was.

Hah. We got the window units in the two bedrooms the day after we moved in, I think.

We got Sally the next week I think. Oh Sally, how we'll miss thee.

Congrats.

Although, I have to admit I misread you post and wondered, "What exactly does a heat pimp do?"

is it going to be more cost effeciant than window units?

Over what period of time? In the long run, yes, it will be. More importantly, it increases the value of our house and makes us more comfortable. Most of our windows cannot accomodate window units, which is problemmatic.

how cna they not accomodate window units?!

we have so much to do before that. like.....fill in the swamp in our back yard (water front property is only worth money if it's near a reputable body of water) and fix the garage. and a few billion other thigns

some of our windows are too small. Many of our windows are the wrong kind of windows.

we managed to fit ac units in windows that were only 19 inches wide. it takes creativity

Re: Creativity.

no! ac units are usually only 17 inches wide. you just dont use the wings on them. and when you have a big gaping hole, you use weather stripping and duct tape :D

two of our windows are smaller than that.

ah. ok. then you're screwed. although...i'm sure there's an unsafe way to fit them sideways....daddy could do it if you'd like to borrow him

old houses usually have quite a few quirks. we wont even go into my house's quirks...

The windows aren't any taller than they are wide.

Basically our entire living room, dining room, kitchen, and sunroom without A/C. That's half our house. Well, I take it back, we've got a room air conditioner (it doesn't go in the window, it stands about 3 feet high) in the living room. But that doesn't help the dining room, kitchen, or sunroom at all. And those units are neither cheap to buy nor cheap to run.

Thanks for the offer, but we won't need your father to unsafely install any units. Not only is it not very feasible, it will be a moot point by summer.

Almost nobody has central air in Australia. :/

I lived half my life without air conditioning (until we moved to Bowie). But my husband is completely and UTTLERLY miserable without it, so it was a priority for him. Last summer wasn't bad AT ALL, but who knows what this summer will bring...
