The other day while driving home I passed an SUV on the shoulder of the Beltway that was on fire. The whole front half of it was on fire. This is the second SUV in two months that I've seen on fire on the Beltway. The previous one, though, looked like the engine had fallen out and was on fire underneath the front of the SUV. It was weird.

What's with all the cars on fire?

Seth saw another a week or two ago on 95 North.

Eep.

Current Mood: confused confused

Well, it is cold back east.

But the first one (in December) happened before it had really gotten cold.

Perhaps they had an extra package of hot dogs, or found some marshmallows and chocolate in the back seat. Mmmm. Smores.

"Locusts" are not "Cicadas".

It was an SUV, too. I know what I'm never buying.

It was on the inner loop of the Washington Beltway

The car-b-q in question was on the inner loop, on the bridge that goes over Georgia Avenue. I couldn't see the vehicle because it was behind the big sign that said "I-495".

Hello.

[Random driveby posting, don't mind me. (WJ/WJ2/jbcs)]

Might this recall have something to do with it?

Ah, the memories!

In the summer of 1989, I held a job where I tested television signal quality throughout the Northern Virginia suburbs of DC. I listened to the radio traffic reports since problems could affect my productivity.

For reasons still unknown to me, there was a rash of vehicle fires on the beltway that year. They became so common (on the order of one or two or more a week for several weeks) that the DJs on WJFK changed their introduction from the bland "here's the traffic brought to you by Amalgamated Amalgamations Consolodaters, Limited" variety to the far more accurate and colorful "Burning Van Report"
