Why does no one believe that I've lived in five states (other than slitterst, but he's only saying that because he's purposely going against what he thought originally)? Seth's lived in seven states, I think. So why is five so unbelievable?

I don't know about other people, but I assume it's because they're not military brats...I myself have lived in ... California, Florida, South Carolina, Guam, Washington State, New York State...which is fives states and one territory.

Actually, I'd also have to say I've visited the state of "Griffindorf" (or however it's spelled.)

well, yeah, that played a role, but I didn't move as much as most military brats that I knew... and Seth wasn't a military brat but moved more than I did.

Oh, you mean Seth was a "corporate" brat?!? Or is he just a plain brat?

I've met many "fill in the blank" brats... But I kind of envy people who grew up in one place at least until college. They think it's fun to be constantly on the move...

nah. his mother was just crazy.

Given that you just pointed out you are a military brat, it's believable. I've just been busy doing real work, so I haven't updated my responses.

But Seth wasn't a military brat and he moved more than I did! Is it really that unusual to move a lot?

8 states, if Massachusetts is a state

New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Maryland and Massachusetts. Yes, the list ends with Massachusetts, because I don't like explaining that my current state is Insanity.

Re: 8 states, if Massachusetts is a state

oh, sorry, I missed Ohio when I was counting.

WHY HAVEN'T YOU ANSWERED MY POLL? I don't want to post answers until I see how many YOU get right! :)

Re: 8 states, if Massachusetts is a state

Actually, it's a commonwealth...but, it still gets a star on the flag.

Re: 8 states, if Massachusetts is a state

It's still a state.

Re: 8 states, if Massachusetts is a state

And to be pedantic right back at you, the Federal Government recognizes 50 states in the union, including PA, KY, MA, and VA.

I'm the wrong one to ask, as I've lived and worked all my life in a 50 mi. radius from where I was born.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: January 27th, 2005 06:46 pm (UTC) (Link)
see, that seems strange to me.
From: cecerose Date: January 27th, 2005 07:05 pm (UTC) (Link)
ditto. and I'm a wee bit jealous.

Let's see:

CT
MD
NY
MA
VA

Doesn't see that odd to me. I've lived in 5 different states, too.

Nope. Leaving out the non-US places I've lived, it was MD, CT, MD, NY, MD, NY, MA, MD, VA, MD.

Seems like more states, but it really is just a lot of moves.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: January 27th, 2005 08:09 pm (UTC) (Link)
Took me a minute to figure out that you were talking about the states I'VE lived in and couldn't figure out when YOU had lived in CT or VA! (or MA for that matter).

Right.

NY, NJ, MD, WI, and CA for you. Is that it?
From: bodnej Date: January 27th, 2005 08:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
Correct. Although I've lived in three different places in NY, and three different places in MD, they each only count once.

estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: January 27th, 2005 08:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, sure, I wasn't counting different places within the same state. If I counted the number of times I've MOVED, that would be a much larger number. Good lord. I've had 6 different addresses in Maryland alone!

I am better traveled than you. I've lived in more countries than you have. Just not a lot of states.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: January 27th, 2005 08:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hey... didn't you just spend summers in NC? That doesn't count!

estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: January 27th, 2005 08:23 pm (UTC) (Link)
You can't count summers. There was nothing permanent about it. You KNEW it was temporary! Sheesh. If you can count summers, then I've lived in six states.

Wait, okay, so when you moved there in 95/96, you actually moved there? That wasn't just a summer job? That was for real, expecting to stay?

Okay, that counts.

:-D

I know. I aim to please.

I don't think 5 states is so odd. I've only lived in two (TX, MA) -- well OK, 3, if you count DC -- but we moved a lot when I was a kid. We may have moved around within the same city for the most part, but we traipsed all over town. My dad would get restless every 2-4 years and buy another house. My mother's nearly as bad. I grew up thinking it was weird to live in the same house for years and years -- not necessarily bad, but weird. So anyway, if we'd been in the Northeast where the states are smaller, I can easily imagine this sort of thing happening.
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: January 27th, 2005 08:30 pm (UTC) (Link)
Wait. Don't you live in GA now? So doesn't that make three?
ichur72 From: ichur72 Date: January 27th, 2005 11:00 pm (UTC) (Link)
Duh ... yes. (Stupid brain.)
estherchaya From: estherchaya Date: January 27th, 2005 08:30 pm (UTC) (Link)
oh, and for purposes of this discussion, we'll count DC
ichur72 From: ichur72 Date: January 27th, 2005 11:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
All righty then, my count is 4.

Right, but you dilly-dallied in answering my poll and therefore you didn't get acknowledged when I wrote this post. So there. And yes, you got it right.
