Guardians
Seth and I are officially Julian's temporary legal guardians. This doesn't really change anything. It just elevates us slightly from our former status of "glorified babysitter" to "not-quite-a-parent-but-we-can-get-him-emergency-medical-care-if-we-need-to" status.

Current Mood: ecstatic ecstatic

How long does this last for?

It's actually indefinite. But in theory, we reevaluate in September. Or, rather, his mother reevaluates.

Don't underestimate that. It really is one less major thing to worry about.

oh, believe me, I know. That's why we pushed for it.

I hate doing paperwork, but I had to do forms for my health plan twice recently. Once, in early-to-mid-December, was the annual paperwork for the next year. And then again, after Richard was born, I had to do the paperwork to add him. There are so many things to worry about that any time you can cross one off of the list, it's a good thing.

Now you can focus on the little things, like what college you want him to go to. I understand you can never start planning that too early... ;)

Ummm, congrats, I think.

Nah, it's a good thing. The other thing it does is make us an "interested party" in Julian's welfare should, say, his mother come back tomorrow and say "yeah, I still don't have a place to live, but I changed my mind and I want Julian back now." She'd have to file a petition with the court to vacate the guardianship order, and we'd have legal standing to contest her petition.

It's just that practically, in terms of our day-to-day... it doesn't really change anything.

:-D

Dave IMd me last night, be we were out (must've left it on). I've tried to get him a couple time since, but haven't hooked up with him. Anyway, let him know I wasn't ignoring him.

Mazel Tov! I know it doesn't "mean" anything, but being given that responsibility is pretty important...

I'm so glad to hear this good news! I'm so glad you have a little more stability there, legally speaking. Congratulations for getting past this speedbump.
