Yesterday after having commented to Seth that it had been days since I'd seen an ant inside the house, I found 6 of them in the kitchen. Dernit!

that is probably the most frightening userpic I have ever seen
(i.e., my father would love it)

watch what you say, lady. Not everyone knows that my father-in-law is touring Europe.

funny, the person that I stole that from called it a racoon which didn't seem quite right to me. But now that you mention it, it certainly IS a ferret!

You need to get some ant-eating spiders. And ant-lions. And anteaters. Maybe we can convince an echidna to emigrate (though admittedly they more often eat termites).

we could use an echidna too!

Actually I thought about spiders with the ants...but the problem is that they're so tiny and so unlikely to walk into a spider web that I don't think spiders would help much.

Not all spiders make webs. You need the kind that hunt, not the kind that wait in webs.

Um. Ack? There are spiders that HUNT????

Crap.

By the way, Thorpe's looking good, but I was most impressed with Klete's ability to stay ahead of him in the final leg of tonight's relay. :) (though, frankly, I thought that Thorpe was going to take away the lead from USA completely... the second he jumped in the pool, he took away the huge lead the US had over AUS.

Sure. My favourites are jumping spiders. They're so cute. Wolf spiders are very pretty, but they have a nasty bite. Huntsman spiders are probably the most common hunting spider I see.

We had a large one in our house a while back that was so big it woke me up at night when it came out to hunt. (If you were really quiet you could hear it running on the wall.)

Yeah, he made up the 1.5 second lead in about 15 metres. It was a mistake to do that - he didn't have enough left at the end. He should have paced himself more.
